Student answer (Band 6.5)
The graph illustrates the number of travelers visiting a specific Caribbean island from 2010 to 2017.
Overall, it can be observed that despite some fluctuations the total number of tourists travelling across Caribbean island climbed to a huge extent. Despite recording the lowest proportion of tourists staying on cruise ships the figures considerably increased by 2017 than the ones staying on island .
Beginning with the most prominent category, the trend for visitors staying on island fluctuated over the period, commencing with just 0.7 millions of visitors in 2010 and 2011, respectively, stood at 1.5 million visitors which remained relatively unchanged between 2013 and 2015, before dropping to around 0.7 million visitors in 2016 and finally rising again to reach about 1.5 millions of tourists by 2017. The figures for the travelers residing at island swiftly increased starting with the least amount about 0.25 millions visitors and the figures in 2011 were almost as twice as those in 2010. After declining to the initial value of 0.25 in 2012, the figures rose steadily from 0.5 million visitors to 2 million visitors between 2013 and 2017.
Turning to the remaining category which is the summation of both the categories, the total amount of visitors rapidly increased throughout the period, beginning with just over 1 million visitors and reached to a peak at 3.5 millions of visitors.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview. You covered the three categories (island visitors, cruise ship visitors, and the total) and made relevant comparisons. However, there are some inaccuracies in your data reporting. For instance, you mention the island visitors reached 1.5 million in 2010 and 2011, but the graph shows 0.7 million. Additionally, the description of the cruise ship data is slightly confusing, as you refer to it as the 'least amount' while the graph shows it starting higher than the island visitors in 2010. Ensuring data precision is vital for a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Beginning with', 'Turning to', and 'After declining to' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when distinguishing between the two categories of visitors. The paragraphing is appropriate, and there is a clear progression of ideas throughout the response, which helps the reader follow the information presented.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuations', 'prominent', and 'summation'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation, such as '1.5 millions of visitors' (should be '1.5 million visitors') and 'residing at island' (should be 'residing on the island'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on accurate pluralization and preposition usage will improve your lexical precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'Despite recording the lowest proportion... the figures considerably increased'. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues and incorrect pluralization of numbers (e.g., '3.5 millions of visitors'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that disrupt the flow. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the overall meaning of the report.
