Student answer (Band 6.0)

The line graph illustrates proportion of tourists in terms of millions who visited who visited Caribbean island during the time period of 2010 to 2017.

Overall, it can be clearly observed that the total number of individuals who stayed on ships gradually increased to the end of the year whereas, the amount of people staying on remain at second. In contrast, the total amount of visitors saw a sharp rise from start to the end.

Looking at the details, amount of travelers who stayed on ship slightly went down in 2012 and after that it kept rising substantially till 2017. Conversely, people who stayed on island go through a sharp rise till 2015 before a minor fall in 2016 and than stopped after a bit escalation again. in total the ratio of people were low in 2010.

To summarize, ratio of both people who stayed on island and on ships go through a overall rise.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the upward trends for both categories. However, the description of the data is somewhat imprecise. For instance, you mention a 'sharp rise' for total visitors, but the graph shows two distinct categories (island stay vs. ship stay). The data points are not always clearly reported; for example, you state that the number of people staying on the island had a 'minor fall in 2016' and then 'stopped', which is vague and does not accurately reflect the visual data. To improve, ensure you provide specific figures from the graph to support your comparisons and avoid vague terminology.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'In contrast', 'Conversely', and 'To summarize'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'amount of people staying on remain at second'. The use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive, and the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear focus will help improve your score in this area.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision required for a higher band. You use terms like 'amount of people' and 'ratio of people' repeatedly, which is not always accurate; 'number of tourists' or 'figures' would be more appropriate. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'bit escalation'. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', and ensure you use nouns and verbs correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity, such as 'illustrates proportion of tourists' (missing articles), 'who visited who visited' (repetition), and 'than stopped' (incorrect word choice for 'then'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing commas and capitalization issues. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors limits the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and proofreading for minor slips will significantly improve your accuracy.
