Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response covers all parts of the task by reporting on the three categories of tourists across the given timeframe. You successfully identified the main trends and made relevant comparisons, such as noting the growth in cruise ship visitors versus the fluctuations in island-staying visitors. However, the overview is somewhat weak; it focuses on specific years rather than summarizing the overall trends (e.g., the consistent upward trajectory of total visitors). To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most significant general patterns rather than listing specific data points, which is better suited for the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with each focusing on a specific category of visitor. You use some cohesive devices like 'In contrast,' 'First of all,' and 'Moreover' to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive (e.g., starting many sentences with 'visitors was'). The flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the transition between sentences feels more natural rather than just a list of data points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the necessary information about trends and figures. You use terms like 'fluctuation,' 'increased,' and 'rapidly' appropriately. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is significant repetition of basic phrases such as 'visitors was' and 'number of visitors.' To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increase' (e.g., 'soared,' 'climbed,' 'witnessed a surge') and avoid repeating the same sentence structures throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and pluralization (e.g., 'visitors was' instead of 'visitors were,' '0.3 millions' instead of '0.3 million'). These errors are persistent throughout the text. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these basic grammatical slips prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of plural nouns with numbers will significantly improve your accuracy.
