Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided data to support your points. You covered the overall increase in visitor numbers and distinguished between those staying on the island and those on cruise ships. However, the report contains several inaccuracies regarding the data points (e.g., stating 2.5 to 2.7 million for 2014-2015 when the graph shows lower figures). Additionally, some comparisons are confusingly phrased, such as the description of the 2012-2013 period. To reach a higher band, ensure that your data extraction is precise and that you clearly highlight the most significant trends rather than listing every year's figures, which can make the summary feel mechanical.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'All in all' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track which data point belongs to which category. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus, such as grouping the initial period versus the later period, rather than just moving chronologically through every year.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the main information. You use some topic-specific terms like 'cruise ships' and 'visitors'. However, there is a reliance on basic verbs and repetitive phrasing, such as 'went high up', 'rose', and 'shot up'. There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'include of' instead of 'including' and 'preferable choice' instead of 'preferred option'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'graph illustrate', 'visitor were'), missing articles (e.g., 'stayed in island'), and incorrect preposition usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles with geographical locations. Proofreading for these specific, recurring errors would significantly enhance the clarity and professional tone of your writing.
