The graph below shows the number of tourists visiting a particular Caribbean island between 2010 and 2017.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The line graphs illustrate the number of tourists visiting a particular Caribbean island between 2010 and 2017. The numbers are in millions.

Overall there was an upward trend in all the figures. However, the curve for visitors staying on island showed a slight fluctuation.

Initially, the number of visitors staying on cruise ships stood at around 0.25. It rose to 0.5 in 2011 before dropping to around 0.25 after a year. It then went up gradually to 1 million in 2014 and reached around 2.0 in 2017. On the other hand, the number of visitors staying on island were nearly 0.75 in 2010. Although the numbers remained relatively constant for a year, it increased in the subsequent years reaching 1.5 in 2013. The curve remained constant for three years before dropping to around 1.25 in 2016 and increased slightly to 1.5 in 2017.

The total numbers increased significantly. In 2010, the visitors were nearly 1 million. The numbers rose substantially to around 2.0 in 2013 and continued to increase in the subsequent years reaching 3.5 in 2017.
