Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the overall upward trend and the distinction between cruise ship and island stay visitors. However, the reporting of data is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, you state that visitors staying on the island remained constant between 2013 and 2015, which contradicts the visual data showing a significant increase. Furthermore, the description of the final years is muddled, making it difficult for the reader to follow the specific trends. To improve, ensure that your data points are precise and that your summary of trends aligns accurately with the provided graph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'After that, it decreased drastically and it increased considerably and it 1.3 million and 1.5 million respectively' are disjointed and lack logical flow. The referencing is also unclear at times, particularly when referring back to previous figures. To improve, focus on using transition words more naturally and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one without relying on repetitive 'and it' structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic verbs like 'increased' and 'remained', and there are issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the table graph' (it is a line graph) and 'the number of tourist who stay' (should be plural 'tourists'). There are also errors in number formatting, such as '2.7 millions', where the plural 's' is unnecessary when a specific number is provided. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate a wider range of synonyms for change, such as 'surged', 'dipped', or 'stabilised', and pay closer attention to pluralisation rules.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'visitors stayed on island remained constant' and 'the number of tourist... was increase'. Sentence structure is often simplistic or run-on, with many clauses joined incorrectly by 'and'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly regarding the use of commas and full stops. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and avoiding the overuse of 'and' to connect unrelated clauses.
