Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the overall upward trend and the distinction between cruise ship visitors and those staying on the island. However, the data reporting is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, stating that visitor numbers were 'constant in 2013 to 2015' contradicts the provided data, and the description of the fluctuations is imprecise. The summary lacks a clear focus on the most significant comparisons, and some figures are misread or poorly presented, which hinders the clarity of the report. To improve, ensure that data points are accurately transcribed and that the relationship between different categories is clearly explained.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is frequently interrupted by confusing sentence structures and unclear referencing. While some cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'On the other hand' are used, they are often applied to ideas that do not logically follow one another. The connection between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the lack of clarity in the data presentation makes it difficult for the reader to follow the trend. Improving the use of linking words to show cause and effect or contrast would help the flow of the response significantly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic verbs like 'increased' or 'remained'. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'The figure was fluctuate' (should be 'fluctuated') and 'these ratio increased' (should be 'this figure'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with precision, and the errors in word form occasionally cause confusion for the reader. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate a wider variety of synonyms for trends and more precise terminology for describing statistical changes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are consistent issues with verb tenses (e.g., 'was increase' instead of 'increased'), subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'numbers were remain'), and sentence structure. The use of complex sentences is attempted but often results in errors that make the meaning unclear. For instance, 'its 4 times higher than 2013' is grammatically incorrect and lacks a clear subject. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring consistent tense usage would greatly improve the accuracy and readability of your writing.
