Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the overall upward trend and the distinction between island visitors and cruise ship passengers. However, the analysis is hampered by significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For example, stating that cruise visitors 'doubled approximately 0.25 million' is unclear, and the description of the trends is often vague or confusing. The overview is present but lacks clarity due to poor phrasing. To improve, you must ensure that the data points cited are accurate and that the comparison between the two categories is clearly articulated. The response addresses the task requirements but fails to provide a clear, accurate summary of the trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'Although' and 'Furthermore', they are often applied in ways that do not accurately reflect the relationship between the ideas. The use of pronouns and referencing is sometimes confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the development of the trends. To improve, focus on using cohesive devices more naturally and ensuring that each sentence flows logically from the previous one. The overall structure is present but lacks the necessary cohesion for a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and often used incorrectly, which impacts the clarity of your report. Phrases like 'total population arriving in island' and 'the highest service of staying on island' are unnatural and imprecise. There is a reliance on basic vocabulary, and attempts to use more complex terms often result in errors in collocation and word choice. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to data description, such as 'upward trend', 'fluctuated significantly', or 'remained stable'. Expanding your range of academic vocabulary and practicing correct word usage will be essential for improvement.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with article usage ('the total population arriving in island'), subject-verb agreement ('the total community... were rose'), and sentence structure ('The individuals, who leading in island, were about 1 million'). Complex sentence structures are attempted but are consistently faulty, leading to confusion. While simple sentences are generally understandable, the lack of control over more complex forms limits the score. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically verb tenses and the correct use of relative clauses, before attempting more complex structures.
