Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Because the response is only 91 words, the information is presented in a very truncated manner. While you have identified some main features, such as the rise in cruise ship visitors and the comparison between the two categories, the lack of detail and failure to reach the required length means the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you must expand your analysis by including more specific data points from the graph and providing a more comprehensive overview of the trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks a clear structure. There is no clear paragraphing, and the transition between the overview and the body of the report is abrupt. While you attempt to use some cohesive devices like 'Overall' and 'After that', the progression of ideas is disjointed. The sentences are short and lack the necessary linking words to create a smooth flow of information. To improve, ensure you group related information into distinct paragraphs and use a wider variety of cohesive devices to connect your sentences and ideas logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You use basic terms like 'fluctuate', 'steady', and 'numbers' repeatedly. There is little attempt to use more sophisticated or varied vocabulary to describe the trends shown in the graph. For example, instead of saying 'numbers fluctuate a bit', you could use more precise language like 'experienced minor fluctuations'. To improve, try to incorporate a wider range of synonyms and collocations related to data description, such as 'significant increase', 'gradual decline', or 'remained constant'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are several grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your writing. For instance, 'tourists who are staying... are fluctuate' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'the number of tourists... fluctuated'. Additionally, there are issues with tense consistency, such as 'Tourists that are stayed', which should be 'Tourists who stayed'. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent use of past tenses for historical data will help improve your accuracy.
