Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the overall upward trend and the comparison between cruise ship and island visitors. However, there are inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, you state that 1 million people visited initially in 2010, whereas the graph shows the total is closer to 1.2 million. Additionally, the description of the island visitors 'plateaued from 2013-2015' is slightly inaccurate as there is a visible decline during that period. While you identify the key trends, the lack of precision in data extraction prevents a higher score. Ensure you read the axes and data points more carefully to support your summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on different categories. The progression of ideas is generally clear. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'was where the maximum number of visitors was achieved'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, for example, 'that number has since varied' is vague. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect the data points more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'stagnation', 'fluctuation', and 'plateaued'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'deep in number' (likely meant 'dip') and 'visitor staying on cruise ship' (should be plural). There is also some repetition of basic verbs. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends and ensure that your word forms (singular/plural) are consistent with the context of the sentence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and pluralization, such as 'total number of tourist' (tourists) and 'in there numbers' (their). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect comma usage. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve your writing.
