Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data, but it fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the main features. While it identifies the two categories (cruise ship visitors and those staying on the island), the description of the trends is confusing and inaccurate. For instance, stating that visitors were 'regular increase' or 'slightly down' lacks precision and fails to highlight the significant differences in growth rates between the two groups. The data points mentioned, such as 'below half of the millions', are vague and do not effectively communicate the information presented in the graph. To improve, focus on identifying the overall trend and using specific data points to support your observations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often incorrect, such as starting sentences with 'and' or using 'or' inappropriately (e.g., 'or the second is staying on island'). Referencing is also unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two groups. The lack of logical connectors between sentences hinders the flow of information. To improve, use a wider range of linking words like 'whereas', 'in contrast', or 'subsequently' to connect ideas more naturally and improve the overall structure of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'graph chart are illustrate', 'visting', and 'vistors'. The phrasing is often unnatural, which occasionally impedes communication. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles to use precise terms to describe trends, such as 'up and down' instead of 'fluctuated'. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your vocabulary to include more academic terms related to data description, such as 'witnessed a steady rise', 'remained stable', or 'reached a peak'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The graph chart are illustrate'), article usage (e.g., 'the place of caribean island'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or poorly constructed, such as 'the one is cruise ship vistor . or the second is staying on island'. There is very little evidence of complex sentence structures, and the basic sentences used are often inaccurate. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
