Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the main features, but there are significant issues with data accuracy and interpretation. You mention that the total number of tourists stood at '1%' in 2010, which is an incorrect reading of the graph's units (millions). Furthermore, the description of the trends is confusing; you state that visitors staying on the island 'suppressed' the cruise ship category, but the data provided in your text is contradictory and unclear. The summary of the trends is not fully supported by the data, and the lack of clarity regarding the figures makes it difficult to follow the main features of the graph. To improve, ensure you accurately interpret the units and clearly distinguish between the two categories throughout the period.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hampered by confusing sentence structures and unclear referencing. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Overall' and 'Turning to', the connection between ideas is often weak. For example, the transition between the total number of tourists and the breakdown of categories is abrupt. Additionally, some sentences are incomplete or grammatically fragmented, such as 'become the primary', which disrupts the progression of information. To achieve a higher band, focus on using cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus that links logically to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and sometimes inaccurate. You use terms like 'suppresed' (likely meaning 'surpassed') and 'total stood at approximately 1%', which indicates a struggle with precise terminology for describing data. There is also repetition of basic phrases like 'number of tourists' and 'figure'. To improve, you should incorporate more varied vocabulary for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a downward trajectory'. Additionally, ensure you use the correct units (millions) rather than percentages, as this is a fundamental error in reporting the data provided in the prompt.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. You have issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it start point much lower'), incorrect verb tenses, and sentence fragments (e.g., 'become the primary'). The sentence structure is often simplistic, and there are errors in basic punctuation and word order. While you attempt some complex sentences, they are often faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect verb forms.
