Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You accurately highlighted the contrast between the stable growth of island-staying visitors and the rapid, dramatic increase in cruise-ship tourism. All key features, including the starting and ending points, are well-supported with relevant data from the graph. The comparison between the two categories is effectively made throughout the response. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are transcribed with absolute precision, as minor inaccuracies in figures can slightly detract from the overall reliability of the report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, a concise overview, and two body paragraphs that group information effectively. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you have used a good range of cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'consequently', and 'while'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different trends. The flow of information is natural, and the relationship between the two categories of tourists is clearly articulated, making the report easy to follow from start to finish.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for an academic report, using terms like 'fluctuating', 'dramatically', 'substantial growth', and 'category'. The language is precise and fits the context of describing trends well. There are no significant errors in word choice or collocation that impede meaning. To achieve a higher band, you could incorporate a few more sophisticated or less common lexical items to describe the intensity of the changes, such as 'surged' or 'plateaued', to further enhance the descriptive quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
Your writing displays a good command of complex sentence structures, such as the use of subordinate clauses in the introduction and the comparison in the second paragraph. The majority of your sentences are error-free. There are minor slips, such as the punctuation error in the first sentence (a comma after '2017.') and a subject-verb agreement error ('1 million tourist visited' should be 'tourists visited'). However, these are rare and do not interfere with the clarity of your communication. Your control over tense and structure is generally strong.
