Student answer (Band 6.0)
The line graph elucidates the information about the number of tourists visiting Caribbean island between 2010 to 2017. The graph depicts the tourist in total, visitors staying on cruise ships and the travelers staying on island.
Taking a general overview, the amount of visitors increased over the period, reaching its highest in 2017. The number of visitors staying on a cruise ship was the lowest in the year 2010 which outnumbered the tourists staying on island
It is pellucid that the overall tourist coming to Caribbean island was about 1 million in the start of 2010 which surged to 2.5 million after 4 years in 2014. Further, there was a slight increase in the number of travelers which later spiked to 3.5 million in 2017.
Moving further, the visitors staying on cruise began with a low amount in 2010 which fluctuated throughout the period of 3 years. Later, the amount of travelers staying on ship had an increment, reaching 2 million in numbers. In addition to that, the travelers staying on island were a little less than 1 million which gradually increased throughout the period of 2 years and remained the same in 2014 and 2015, reaching 1.5 million in 2017.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the overall trend and the two categories of visitors. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the statement that cruise ship visitors 'outnumbered' island visitors in 2010 is factually incorrect based on the provided data. Additionally, some data points are described vaguely, such as 'after 4 years in 2014', which lacks precision. While the main trends are identified, the lack of accurate data reporting and the misinterpretation of specific figures prevent this from reaching a higher band. The overview is present but could be more clearly linked to the specific categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Taking a general overview', 'It is pellucid that', and 'Moving further'. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the referencing is occasionally confusing, particularly when discussing the specific years and categories. The paragraphing is appropriate for the task, helping the reader follow the structure of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, with attempts at more sophisticated words like 'elucidates', 'pellucid', and 'surged'. However, there are issues with word choice and collocation. For example, 'amount of visitors' is used where 'number of visitors' would be more accurate, as visitors are countable. The phrase 'in the start of 2010' is slightly unnatural. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, the errors in word choice and the occasional misuse of academic-sounding terms limit the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('visiting Caribbean island', 'staying on island') and issues with preposition usage ('in the start of 2010'). Subject-verb agreement is generally maintained, but the sentence structure is sometimes repetitive. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band. The control of punctuation is generally acceptable, but the overall grammatical accuracy needs improvement to achieve a higher level of fluency.
