Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the overall growth and the comparison between cruise ship and island visitors. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and contains inaccuracies. For instance, the claim that the total number of tourists between 2010 and 2017 was 3.5 million is a misinterpretation of the data, as the graph likely shows annual figures rather than a cumulative total. The description of the trends is also slightly repetitive and lacks a clear, analytical focus on the key differences between the two categories over the entire period. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are interpreted accurately and that the overview highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing numbers.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as starting sentences with 'At Last' or 'then a graph decreased'. The logical progression between ideas is sometimes hindered by these awkward transitions. Referencing is also inconsistent; for example, the use of 'these' and 'this' does not always clearly point back to the intended noun. While the overall arrangement is coherent enough to follow, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive sentence structure limit the flow of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of incorrect word forms or collocations, such as 'tourists were stayed' instead of 'tourists stayed' and 'gradullay increase' (spelling error). The range of vocabulary is limited, relying heavily on basic terms like 'number', 'increase', and 'visitors'. To improve, you should aim to use a wider range of synonyms and more precise reporting verbs or adverbs to describe the trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'surged', or 'a marginal rise'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with verb tenses and passive voice constructions, such as 'visitors were stayed' and 'tourists started come'. Subject-verb agreement is also problematic, for example, 'the total number of tourists... were'. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often structurally flawed. The punctuation is also inconsistent, with several sentences starting with lowercase letters after periods. A focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
