Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the upward trends for both cruise and island visitors. You successfully identified the total growth and the peak figures. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, you mention a 'steady rise' in the overview, but later describe 'fluctuations' for cruise visitors. Additionally, the data points are occasionally imprecise (e.g., '0.3 - 0.7 millions' is vague when describing the starting point). To reach a higher band, ensure that your data reporting is consistently accurate and that the overview clearly synthesizes the most significant trends rather than just listing them.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of information. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Then' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as starting sentences with 'Then, this trend reached...' or 'while, from 2011 to 2015'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when discussing the 'ratio' or 'position', which makes the flow feel a bit disjointed. Improving the variety and naturalness of your linking words will enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'upward trend', 'dramatic increase', and 'gradual incline'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'guests going to specific Caribbean island' (should be 'tourists visiting a particular Caribbean island') and 'off land people' (should be 'cruise ship passengers'). There are also minor errors in word form, such as 'interusted' (interested) and 'flucations' (fluctuations). To improve, focus on using more precise terminology related to data description and ensure correct spelling of key terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the quality of the writing. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'going to specific Caribbean island'), subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'visitors... shows the upward trend'), and incorrect preposition usage. Some sentences are also awkwardly phrased, such as 'Then, again experience the little fall'. To achieve a higher score, you need to increase the frequency of error-free sentences and pay closer attention to basic grammar rules like articles and pluralization.
