Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the total number of visitors and the breakdown between cruise ship passengers and island stayers. However, the overview is poorly constructed and lacks clarity, making it difficult to identify the main trends immediately. While the data points are generally accurate, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a sophisticated comparison of the categories. The summary of the 'island stayers' category is slightly confusing in its phrasing. To reach a higher band, ensure the overview highlights the most significant trends (e.g., the overall growth and the shift in popularity between the two visitor types) rather than just listing data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'regarding the remaining point was the who visitors'. There is a lack of variety in linking words, and some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when referring back to the categories of visitors. Improving the flow between sentences and using a wider range of cohesive devices (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'furthermore') would significantly improve the logical progression of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic verbs like 'increased' and 'stood at'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'the total visitors which was going to island' and 'the who visitors'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the message. To improve, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'surged', 'fluctuated', or 'remained stable', and work on collocations to ensure your sentences sound more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('the chart illustrate'), tense consistency ('it was contineously increased'), and article usage. Sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting more complex constructions. For example, 'similarly which visitors staying on cruise ships stood at' is grammatically incorrect. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence structure prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tenses and pluralization.
