Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the overall trend and specific data points for 2010, 2015, 2016, and 2017. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While the key trends are identified, the description of the data is occasionally imprecise, such as the phrasing 'remain visitors stay at cruise ship' or 'the figar have steady rise'. To reach a higher band, you should focus on synthesizing the data more effectively rather than simply listing figures, and ensure that the overview clearly highlights the most significant trends, such as the shift in preference from island stays to cruise ships over the period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of varied cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are often abrupt, such as the jump from the 2010 data to the 2015 data without a clear linking phrase. While the reader can follow the progression of time, the use of referencing is sometimes unclear, making the relationship between the two categories (island vs. cruise ship) difficult to track at times. Improving the use of linking words like 'consequently', 'in contrast', or 'meanwhile' would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'visitors', 'stay', and 'number'. There are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations, such as 'perfered to stay' instead of 'preferred to stay' and 'the figar have steady rise' instead of 'the figures showed a steady rise'. Spelling errors, such as 'miilons', 'raached', and 'nuber', are frequent and occasionally distract the reader. To improve, you should aim to use a wider range of synonyms for 'increase' (e.g., 'climb', 'surge') and 'stay' (e.g., 'accommodation', 'reside') to demonstrate more flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies primarily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement ('the number of visitors have been constant growth'), article usage ('in year of 2010'), and tense consistency. Complex sentence attempts are rare and often contain errors, such as 'while visiting caribbean island tourists have more perfered to stay'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and practicing the use of complex structures like relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions to add variety.
