Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to address the task adequately. While it identifies the categories, it does not provide a clear overview or highlight the main trends, such as the overall growth in visitor numbers. The description is essentially a repetitive list of data points for each year, which is a mechanical approach rather than an analytical one. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence. Because the data is presented as a list of percentages rather than a summary of key features and comparisons, the response does not meet the requirements for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. The introduction is poorly phrased, and the 'overall' paragraph fails to provide a meaningful summary of the trends. The body paragraphs are essentially lists of figures, which makes the text difficult to follow. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; instead, the writer relies on repetitive sentence structures ('in the year 2010, it is... in 2011, it is...'). The abrupt ending further disrupts the coherence of the response, leaving the reader without a completed thought or a logical conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The writer uses the same phrases ('amount of tourists', 'it is about') throughout the text. There is no attempt to use a range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a steady increase'. The word 'amount' is used incorrectly; 'number' should be used for countable nouns like tourists. The lack of variety and the misuse of basic terminology prevent the response from reaching a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting almost entirely of simple, repetitive sentence structures. There is a lack of complex sentences or varied grammatical forms. Punctuation is inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing spaces after commas (e.g., '0%,in 2011'). There are also errors in subject-verb agreement and basic sentence construction. The frequent repetition of 'it is' makes the writing monotonous and demonstrates a lack of control over English syntax.
