Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to describe the data but fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the main features. The description of the trends is confusing, as you refer to the lines as 'dotted figure graph', 'lining graph', and 'straight ling form graph' rather than identifying the categories (e.g., visitors staying in hotels vs. visitors staying on ships). Because the categories are not correctly identified, the information is inaccurate. Furthermore, the summary lacks a clear comparison of the data points, and the trends described do not align with the provided graph. To improve, ensure you identify the specific categories shown in the legend and focus on reporting the actual figures and time periods accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is repetitive and often misused, such as starting multiple sentences with 'In the graph form' or 'From 2010 to 2012'. The referencing is unclear because the categories are not named, making it difficult for the reader to follow which trend is being discussed. The transition between ideas is mechanical, and the lack of clear subject matter makes the overall structure feel disjointed. Using a wider variety of linking words and clearly defining the subjects of your sentences would significantly improve the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic phrases like 'number of the tourists' and 'good ratio of visitors'. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'unpleasant moments' to describe a decline in data, which is not appropriate for a formal report. The terminology used to describe the graph lines is imprecise. To reach a higher band, you should use more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant decline', and ensure you use the correct labels for the data categories.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'Here the graph in which a brief discussion about...' (missing verb), 'there are increasing in the number' (incorrect verb form), and 'straight ling form graph' (spelling/article errors). The sentence structures are simple and often lack proper subject-verb agreement. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and a correctly conjugated verb. Additionally, work on the correct use of articles ('the') and prepositions to improve the overall accuracy of your writing.
