Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the main features of the graph, but it fails to provide a clear overview or effectively highlight the key trends. While it mentions the growth of cruise and island visitors, the description is often confusing and inaccurate. For instance, the claim that cruise visitors 'descends in 2011' is not supported by the data, and the explanation regarding the 'unpopularity' of island stays is subjective and lacks analytical clarity. The response lacks a clear structure, such as an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs, which makes it difficult to follow the data trends. To improve, focus on identifying the starting and ending points, the most significant peaks, and clear comparisons between the two categories.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response lacks a logical structure. It is presented as a single block of text, which hinders readability. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; transitions like 'At the same time' are used, but the overall flow is disjointed. The referencing is often unclear, such as in the sentence 'the reason signifies the unpopularity among the visitors,' where the connection to the previous clause is confusing. Paragraphing is essential for IELTS Academic Task 1 to separate the overview from the detailed data analysis. Improving the use of linking words and organizing the response into distinct paragraphs would significantly improve the coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and occasionally imprecise. Phrases like 'drastic change,' 'never forthcoming,' and 'covered again a correspondingly' are either misused or do not accurately describe the data trends. The word 'stabilized' is used correctly, but the overall range is narrow, relying on repetitive structures. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'descend' used as a transitive verb or 'in my perspective,' which is inappropriate for an objective data report. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise vocabulary for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated,' 'remained constant,' or 'experienced a steady increase.'

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Number of total visitors shows'), incorrect tense usage (e.g., 'was stabilized'), and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'with was stabilized for a year and then with furthermore more increase'). The use of punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas. While there is an attempt at complex sentences, they are often poorly formed and contain errors. Focusing on basic sentence structure and ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects would help improve the clarity and accuracy of the writing.
