Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it is only 75 words long. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you have identified the main trend, the analysis is severely underdeveloped. You have not provided sufficient detail or comparisons for the entire period (2010–2017), and several key data points from the graph are missing. To improve, you must ensure you describe all categories and provide a more comprehensive overview of the data trends to meet the length requirement and provide a thorough summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into short paragraphs, which helps with the overall structure. However, the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas effectively. For example, the transition between the overview and the body paragraph is abrupt. To improve, you should use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'in contrast', 'consequently') to create a more fluent and logical flow of information throughout the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'visitors' and 'stayed'. There are also some awkward phrasings, such as 'stayed on island' (missing an article) and 'recorded at lowest'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant surge', and ensure you use articles correctly when referring to specific locations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that affect clarity. There are missing articles ('on island', 'on cruise ships') and issues with verb tense consistency and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'visitor staying... recorded at lowest'). The sentence structures are simple, and there is a lack of complex grammatical forms. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate a wider range of sentence structures, including complex sentences, and pay closer attention to basic grammatical accuracy, particularly regarding articles and pluralization.
