Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. Furthermore, the analysis is incomplete; it stops abruptly after describing only the first few years of the period. The main features are not fully reported, and the comparison between the two categories is underdeveloped. To improve, you must ensure you cover the entire timeframe provided in the graph and provide a more comprehensive summary of the trends, including the final data points. The current length and lack of detail prevent a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay has a basic structure with an introduction and an overview, but the development of ideas is severely limited by the length. Paragraphing is present, but the progression of information is interrupted by the premature ending of the text. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical way, such as 'At the start of the period' and 'whereas', but the overall flow is disjointed due to the lack of sufficient content to connect. To improve, ensure you have a clear structure that covers the entire data set logically.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is repetitive, particularly the phrases 'number of visitor staying on island' and 'number of visitors staying on cruise ships'. There are also errors in word form, such as 'tourist' instead of 'tourists' and 'visitor' instead of 'visitors'. The range of vocabulary is limited and does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, try to use synonyms for 'number of' (e.g., 'the figure for', 'the volume of') and vary your descriptive verbs to avoid repeating 'increased' or 'rose'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that affect clarity. For example, 'total number of tourist' should be 'total number of tourists', and 'remained same' should be 'remained the same'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the existing sentences are often clunky or grammatically incomplete. The punctuation is generally acceptable, but the overall control of grammar is inconsistent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and practice incorporating more complex sentence structures like relative clauses or contrastive conjunctions.
