Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While the student attempts to identify some trends, the analysis is incomplete and lacks a clear overview of the main features. The data interpretation is often confusing, such as the mention of 'percentage' when the graph clearly refers to millions of visitors. The summary of the cruise ship data is also underdeveloped. Because the response is under-length and lacks a comprehensive summary of the key features, it does not fully address the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often misused, such as 'to look at the specifics' and 'after to up percentage'. The referencing is unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the relationship between the data points and the trends described. The overall structure is fragmented, and the lack of clear transitions between sentences hinders the flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice, such as using 'percentage' instead of 'number' or 'millions'. The student struggles to use appropriate terminology for describing trends, such as 'very fast grow' instead of 'a rapid increase'. Spelling errors are also present, such as 'visibel', 'travling', and 'particuler'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information accurately or with any degree of precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors that often impede communication. Sentence structures are simple and often incomplete or ungrammatical, such as 'the visitors stay of on 2010 to 2013 in percentage of 0.75 million is was up to 1.5 million'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and basic errors in subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are pervasive throughout the text. Punctuation is also inconsistent, which further detracts from the clarity of the writing.
