Student answer (Band 5.0)
THE LINE GRAPH GIVES THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE NUMBER OF TOURISTS VISITING A CARIBBEAN ISLAND IN BETWEEN THE YEAR 2010 - 2017.
OVERALL, THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF VISITORS STAYING ON CRUISE SHIPS WAS IN 2017.
THE TOTAL NUMBER OF VISITORS WAS 1MILLION IN THE YEAR 2010 WHERE AS THAT WAS INCREASED IN THE YEAR 2012. MOREOVER, IT IS SURPRISINGLY SEE THAT THE NUMBER OF VISITORS STAYING ON ISLAND WERE SAME IN TWO YEAR (2010 AND 2011)., AND IN NEXT THREE YEAR THE NUMBER OF VISITORS WERE SAME BUT LATER IN 2016 NUMBER OF VISITORS WHO LOVE TO STAY ON ISLAND WAS DECREASED.
IT IS NOTICEABLE THAT THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE STAYING ON SHIP WAS DECREASED IN THE YEAR 2012 AND THAN INCREASED IN NEXT 5 YEARS.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the response. While you have identified some main features, such as the overall trend and the peak in 2017, the analysis is superficial. You have not provided sufficient data points or detailed comparisons between the two categories (visitors staying on the island vs. those on cruise ships). The report lacks a clear overview of the trends, and the failure to reach the word count means the task is only partially addressed. To improve, ensure you include more specific data points and provide a more comprehensive summary of the trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as 'Moreover' and 'It is noticeable that'. There are issues with referencing; for example, the phrase 'that was increased' is unclear in its reference. The flow between sentences is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two groups of tourists. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear focus would greatly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use the same words, such as 'number of visitors' and 'year'. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'it is surprisingly see' (should be 'surprising to see') and 'staying on island' (should be 'staying on the island'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and focus on using more precise terminology related to data description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with article usage ('on island' instead of 'on the island'), verb tense consistency, and sentence structure. For instance, 'the number of visitors were same' should be 'the number of visitors was the same'. The range of sentence structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate better control over complex sentence structures and ensure that subject-verb agreement and articles are used correctly throughout the text.
