Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You covered the total visitor numbers and made relevant comparisons between cruise and island-stay tourists. However, the report is missing a specific breakdown for the 'cruise' category, which is a key feature of the graph. While you mentioned the trend reversal, you did not provide specific data points for the cruise visitors, which limits the depth of your analysis. To reach a higher band, ensure that all categories presented in the graph are supported by specific data points throughout the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In 2010', and 'Looking at', which help guide the reader. However, the transition between ideas is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by grammatical errors. For example, the sentence 'which followed by a slight increased' lacks a clear subject or proper linking structure. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that referencing is precise will help improve the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'marked increase', 'gradually', and 'remained stable'. However, there are several spelling errors ('consitently', 'clealy', 'toruists', 'figuare', 'rach') and minor collocation issues, such as 'stay in cruise' instead of 'stay on a cruise'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and expanding your use of precise academic vocabulary related to data description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('the total number of people visited' should be 'the total number of people visiting' or 'who visited') and tense inconsistencies ('stayed lower than individuals who stayed on island only untile about 2016'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of parentheses and commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement.
