Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by describing the trends in tourist numbers. However, the information provided is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the statement that the total reached 3.5 million in 2017 is not supported by the provided graph, and the description of the trends is disjointed. The overview is weak and fails to clearly highlight the main features or significant differences between the categories. The data interpretation is inconsistent, making it difficult for the reader to follow the actual trends shown in the graph. To improve, focus on accurately reporting the data points and identifying clear, overarching trends rather than listing individual years in a confusing manner.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by unclear phrasing and poor sentence structure. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical or incorrect way, such as 'By total' to introduce a paragraph or 'it follows the same way'. Referencing is often ambiguous, making it hard to determine which data point is being discussed. The lack of clear transitions between the different categories of tourists makes the report feel like a series of disconnected observations rather than a cohesive summary. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'fells lower', 'highly grows the path', and 'falls very down'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends accurately; for instance, using 'path' to describe a statistical trend is inappropriate. To achieve a higher band, you should learn specific collocations for describing graphs, such as 'fluctuated', 'reached a peak', or 'experienced a sharp decline', and ensure that words are used in their correct grammatical context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are often marred by significant grammatical errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'visitors... has increased'), incorrect tense usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'in between (2011 and 2017)'). Punctuation is also problematic, with unnecessary parentheses and missing commas. The high frequency of errors often causes difficulty for the reader and obscures the intended meaning. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring subject-verb agreement would be a good starting point for improvement.
