Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified the main trends, the response is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence. You successfully highlight the overall upward trend and the crossover point between cruise ship and island-stay visitors. However, the lack of a conclusion and the unfinished nature of the final paragraph mean that the task is not fully addressed. To improve, ensure you complete your analysis of all data points and provide a clear summary of the main features, ensuring the response reaches the required length.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression is interrupted by the incomplete final sentence. You use some cohesive devices like 'Overall' and 'To begin with', but the flow is often mechanical. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'at the last number was swapped', which makes it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words to connect your ideas more smoothly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, finished structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'celebrated in millions' instead of 'measured in millions', and 'visitors who are staying on island' instead of 'visitors staying on the island'. You attempt to use descriptive verbs like 'swapped' and 'reached', but these are often used inaccurately. To improve, focus on learning the correct collocations for describing data, such as 'a steady increase' or 'a significant rise', and avoid using informal or incorrect terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'the total number of tourists was rose steadily' (incorrect passive/active voice) and 'people who stay on cruise ships was' (subject-verb agreement error). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and the attempt at complex sentences often results in errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of tense when describing past data. Proofreading for simple errors will also help improve your accuracy.
