Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, but the analysis is incomplete as the text cuts off abruptly at the end. While you identify the overall trend and compare the two categories, the description of the cruise ship data is unfinished, which prevents a full overview of the data. To improve, ensure you complete your analysis of all trends and provide a clear summary of the final data points. The overview provided is functional, but the lack of a complete conclusion and the incomplete final sentence significantly impact the ability to fully address the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as 'near to the end of periods these figure become opposite to each other'. The progression of ideas is logical at the start, but the sudden ending disrupts the flow of the report. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'subsequently', 'in contrast', 'meanwhile') to connect your sentences more fluidly and ensure that your referencing is precise throughout the entire response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there is a lack of precision and some repetitive phrasing. For example, you use 'figure' and 'number' frequently. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'a raise is recorded' (should be 'a rise') and 'these figure become opposite' (should be 'the trends reversed'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'plateaued', or 'surpassed', and ensure you use the correct word forms (e.g., noun vs. verb).
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'The visitors who stay on island was' (should be 'were') and 'a minor decline occure' (should be 'occurred'). Additionally, there are issues with articles and pluralisation, such as '1 million of tourists'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors limits the score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage, particularly when describing historical data.
