Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given line graph gives the information about the number of tourists visiting a Caribbean Island between the year 2010 and 2017, where it is very evident that it is a very popular tourist place, as the number of tourists have been illustrated in millions and two different kind of accommodation facility have been used.

The graph makes it evident that visitors usually prefer to live in either cruise ship or on island, which are primarily choices of visitors. Talking about the cruise ships, the graph does not show much of a variation, as it stays under 0.5 million visitors till year 2013. Then, a constant increment in the readings can be observed which achieves its peak in year 2017, with 2 million visitors.

However, information about island illustrates a different story, as a constant elevation can be observed till the year 2013, where it reaches its peak with 1.5 million visitors. Furthermore, which remains unhinged for next two years, which is followed by decrement to roughly 1.2 million visitors.

In addition, the total number of visitors have shown continuous increase in number of tourists, creating a positive impact on economy, and promoting tourism.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, including the trends for both cruise ship and island visitors. You successfully identified the peak years and the general direction of the data. However, the report lacks a clear overview or summary paragraph that synthesizes the main trends at the beginning or end. Additionally, the final paragraph introduces external information about the economy and tourism promotion, which is not present in the graph and is therefore irrelevant to the task. To improve, ensure you focus strictly on the data provided and include a clear, concise summary of the most significant trends in your introduction or conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'Furthermore' to transition between ideas. However, some transitions are slightly awkward, such as 'which remains unhinged for next two years', where the word choice is confusing and the sentence structure is fragmented. The logical flow is generally clear, but the connection between the final paragraph and the rest of the report is weak because it introduces new, unsupported information. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help create a more professional and cohesive flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'constant increment', 'peak', and 'decrement'. However, there are instances of imprecise or incorrect word usage, such as 'unhinged' (which is not appropriate in this context) and 'two different kind of accommodation facility' (which should be plural). Some phrasing is also slightly repetitive. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations for data description, such as 'steady increase' instead of 'constant increment', and ensure that your vocabulary choices are contextually accurate and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the number of tourists have been illustrated') and awkward phrasing ('the graph does not show much of a variation'). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are slightly clunky. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and refining your complex sentence structures. Ensure that your sentences are grammatically complete and avoid fragments, such as the sentence starting with 'Furthermore, which remains...'.
