Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the overall trend and the specific categories (cruise ship vs. island visitors). You successfully identified the key data points and made relevant comparisons between the two groups. However, the report lacks a clear, analytical overview; the summary provided is somewhat fragmented. Additionally, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting, such as stating the total reached 3.5 million in 2017, which is not clearly supported by the visual data provided. To improve, ensure that your overview synthesizes the main trends more clearly and double-check the accuracy of the figures cited against the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the flow between sentences is often mechanical, and the use of cohesive devices is sometimes repetitive or misused. For example, the phrase 'In between 2010 and 2012' is used repeatedly, and the transition 'conversely' is used in a context that does not quite fit the logical progression of the data. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to distinguish between the two categories of visitors. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clear transitions between ideas would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'soared', and 'rose steadily'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'gives the most numbers of participants' and 'ratio of visitors' (when referring to absolute numbers). Some phrasing is unnatural, such as 'at the begging' (likely a spelling error for 'beginning'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology for data description and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate for an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'illustrates the information about number of tourists'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'total number of visitors increase'), and subject-verb agreement errors. While the meaning is generally understandable, these recurring errors prevent the writing from reaching a higher level of accuracy. Focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and ensuring that articles and prepositions are used correctly in your descriptions of data.
