Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the trends for cruise ship and island visitors. However, the analysis is hampered by inaccurate data reporting. For instance, the claim that island visitors reached 1.5 million in 2012-2013 is not clearly supported by the visual data, and the final sentence mentions a year '20' which is incomplete and confusing. While the overview attempts to highlight the main trends, the lack of precision in reporting figures and the inclusion of an incomplete final statement prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure all data points are accurately transcribed and the summary provides a clear, logical overview of the trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the abrupt transition 'But from 2013 to 2015'. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track which group is being discussed. The flow of ideas is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and punctuation errors, which detracts from the overall coherence. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects logically to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'number of 0.7' instead of 'a figure of 0.7 million' and 'slit changes' instead of 'slight changes'. The spelling of 'Milion' is inconsistent, and the phrasing 'the coming number dramatically dropped down' is unnatural. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precision and the repeated errors in basic terminology limit the score. Expanding your range of vocabulary related to trends and data description will help you achieve a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Visitors staying on island had', 'Both Experience a slit changes') and incorrect verb tenses. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and periods, and inconsistent capitalisation of words like 'Ships' and 'Milion'. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, these are often faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and consistent punctuation before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
