Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The provided line chart illustrates the number of tourists visiting Caribbean island between 2010 and 2017. The three lines in chart communicate the information about visitors staying on cruise ships, visitors staying on island and total number of visitors.
In 2010 tourists preferred staying on cruise ships over staying on island. Till 2011 the number of visitors staying on cruise ships stood stable, while the number of visitors staying on island decreased by reaching the same number as it was in 2010.
Over the period of time, the number of visitors staying on cruise ships noted remarkable growth by reaching 1.5 million in 2015. Moreover, the number of visitors staying on island grew slowly till 2013 reaching 0.5 million and afterwards stated increasing rapidly reaching nearly 1.3 million in 2015. By the starting of second half of the year 2015, the number of visitors in both accommodation were the same by reaching around 1.4 million.
Total number of tourists visiting a Caribbean island was 1 million in 2010. Which rose to 1.5 million by 2012, and significantly jumped to nearly 2.7 million by 2015. Afterwards, it remained stable for a year. Number of total visitors rapidly reached to the high of 3.5 million in 2017.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all requirements of the task. You have identified the main trends for all three categories (cruise ship visitors, island stayers, and total visitors) and made relevant comparisons. The overview is clear, and the data is accurately reported. However, the analysis could be improved by grouping the information more logically; for instance, the total number of visitors is a summary of the other two, so it could be integrated more fluidly. The description of the trends is generally accurate, though some phrasing regarding the 'second half of 2015' is slightly imprecise given the data provided. Overall, you have successfully highlighted the key features of the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover' and 'Afterwards', to link sentences. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions between sentences feel slightly abrupt. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the use of articles (e.g., 'on cruise ships' vs 'on the cruise ships') is inconsistent, which occasionally affects the cohesion of your sentences. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different aspects of the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'remarkable growth', 'significantly jumped', and 'remained stable'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'stated increasing' (should be 'started') and 'by reaching the same number' (which is slightly awkward). You also miss some articles, such as 'visiting Caribbean island' (should be 'a Caribbean island') and 'staying on island' (should be 'on the island'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Using more precise synonyms for 'number' or 'visitors' would enhance the lexical variety.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent errors in grammar, particularly with article usage ('on island', 'in chart') and prepositional phrases. Some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as 'Which rose to 1.5 million by 2012', which is a sentence fragment. There are also minor issues with verb tense consistency and word order. Despite these errors, the grammatical control is sufficient to ensure that the reader understands the information presented without difficulty. To improve, focus on article usage and ensuring that all sentences have a clear subject and verb.
