Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The provided line chart illustrates the number of tourists visiting Caribbean island between 2010 and 2017. The three lines in chart communicate the information about visitors staying on cruise ships, visitors staying on island and total number of visitors.
In 2010 tourists preferred staying on cruise ships over staying on island. Till 2011 the number of visitors staying on cruise ships stood stable, while the number of visitors staying on island decreased by reaching the same number as it was in 2010.
Over the period of time, the number of visitors staying on cruise ships noted remarkable growth by reaching 1.5 million in 2015. Moreover, the number of visitors staying on island grew slowly till 2013 reaching 0.5 million and afterwards stated increasing rapidly reaching nearly 1.3 million in 2015. By the starting of second half of the year 2015, the number of visitors in both accommodations were the same by reaching around 1.4 million.
Total number of tourists visiting a Caribbean island was 1 million in 2010. That rose to 1.5 million by 2012, and significantly jumped to nearly 2.7 million by 2015. Afterwards, it remained stable for a year. Number of total visitors rapidly reached to the high of 3.5 million in 2017.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for cruise ship visitors, island visitors, and the total. You have successfully identified the main trends and made relevant comparisons, such as noting the point where the two categories of visitors reached the same number. However, the analysis is slightly hampered by some inaccuracies in data interpretation, such as the claim that the total number of visitors reached 3.5 million in 2017, which is not clearly supported by the provided visual data. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are precisely extracted and that the overview clearly highlights the most significant trends at the beginning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction followed by body paragraphs that group information by category and time. There is a clear progression of ideas throughout the text. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover' and 'Afterwards', to link sentences. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be improved to better connect the specific trends to the overall growth patterns.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'remarkable growth', and 'accommodations'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'stated increasing' (should be 'started') and 'by reaching the same number as it was' (which is slightly wordy). While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the precision is occasionally lacking. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations for describing trends, such as 'experienced a steady rise' rather than 'noted remarkable growth'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('visiting Caribbean island' should be 'visiting the Caribbean island') and preposition errors ('reached to the high' should be 'reached a high'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to article usage and ensure that verb forms are used correctly, particularly when describing past trends. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures would also help improve your score in this criterion.
