Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the required 150-word minimum, which severely limits the ability to address the task requirements. While you attempt to identify some data points, such as the 2010 figures, the response is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence. You fail to provide a clear overview of the trends or make meaningful comparisons between the two categories of visitors. To improve, you must ensure you cover the entire period (2010–2017) and provide a comprehensive summary of the main features, including the final data points. The current lack of development and the unfinished nature of the text prevent a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response is too brief to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a logical progression of ideas. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link the information, and the abrupt ending makes it impossible to assess the overall structure. To improve, you should organize your report into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and body paragraphs detailing specific data points. Using linking words such as 'furthermore', 'in contrast', or 'meanwhile' would help guide the reader through the information more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. You use 'visitors' and 'stayed' multiple times without variation. There are also spelling errors, such as 'Carribean' (Caribbean). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe the trends shown in the graph accurately. To improve, try to incorporate more precise terminology for describing data, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant rise'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you describe the data with greater precision and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity. For instance, 'the tourist who visits' should be plural ('tourists who visited'), and 'the total were 1 million' is grammatically incorrect. The sentence structure is simplistic, and the incomplete sentence at the end demonstrates a lack of control. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your sentences are complete. Practicing the use of complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, will help you demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
