Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified the main trends and provided data points, the analysis is incomplete. Specifically, there is a factual error in the final paragraph where you state that visitors staying on the island became the 'leading choice' at 1.5 million, which contradicts the data provided in the graph. Furthermore, the under-length nature of the response prevents a fully developed overview and detailed comparison of the data points. To improve, ensure you reach the word count by providing more detailed descriptions of the trends and ensuring all data interpretations are accurate.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'On the one hand', and 'Furthermore'. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the total number of tourists and the sub-categories could be more smoothly integrated. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision required for higher bands. There are several errors in word form and collocation, such as '1 millions' (should be '1 million') and 'had been rapidly rise' (should be 'had risen rapidly'). You rely on basic descriptors like 'increase' and 'rise'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', and ensure you use pluralization correctly when referring to numerical values.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The line graph provide' (subject-verb agreement error), 'it had been rapidly rise' (incorrect verb tense/form), and 'rose above to 1.5 millions' (incorrect preposition usage). These errors are noticeable throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct use of verb tenses when describing past data. Proofreading for basic errors like pluralization and preposition choice will also help improve your accuracy.
