Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given line graph demonstrates the number of visitors (in millions) visiting the Caribbean island between 2010 and 2017.
Overall, the graph describes the record of three categories of tourists including the visitors staying on cruise ships, the visitors who were staying on the island, and the total visitors between the years 2010 and 2017.
Initially in 2010, almost 0.25 million visitors preferred to stay on cruise ships. Moreover it fluctuates till 2013 between 0.25 and 0.5, then suddenly its ratio increased to 1 million of visitors in 2014 and started continuously increasing during next 2 years and reached to 2 million of visitors at the end of 2017.
In contrast, the number of tourists, who decided to stayed on the island, started from approximately 0.75 million and stayed consistent till 2011. Then frequently, the line represented the number of tourists staying on island showed a continuous incline in it and reached to 1.5 million in 2013 and remained almost same till 2017.
On the other hand, the total number of visitors who visited the island in 2010, started from 1 million and increased to 1.5 million till 2013. However, it increased continuously with the passage of time and reached to 3.5 million at the end.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the graph, including the three categories and the overall trends. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with data from the graph. However, the analysis could be improved by making more direct comparisons between the categories rather than describing them in isolation. For instance, noting that cruise ship visitors overtook island stayers in 2015 would have provided a more insightful comparison. Additionally, ensure that your data points are precise; for example, stating that the total visitors reached 3.5 million is accurate, but mentioning the starting point of 1 million in 2010 provides a better sense of the scale of growth.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs dedicated to specific categories. You used some cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. Some transitions feel slightly forced, and the paragraphing could be improved by grouping the data more effectively to highlight the relationships between the categories. Referencing is generally clear, but ensure that your pronouns and linking phrases are used to create a smoother narrative rather than just listing facts.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. You used terms like 'fluctuates', 'continuous incline', and 'remained almost same' effectively. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'ratio increased' (when referring to a number) and 'decided to stayed' (a grammatical error affecting lexical precision). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to trends, such as 'surged', 'plateaued', or 'marginal growth', and ensure that your word forms are consistently accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips throughout the text. For example, 'decided to stayed' should be 'decided to stay', and 'remained almost same' should be 'remained almost the same'. Additionally, there are some issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
