Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. Furthermore, the description of the data is incomplete; the response cuts off abruptly in the final sentence ('in 20'), failing to report on the 'visitors staying on the island' category or provide a complete summary of the trends. While the introduction and overview attempt to identify main features, the lack of completion and insufficient length mean the task is only partially addressed. To improve, ensure all data categories are covered and the response is fully developed to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response uses some basic cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'However', and 'Additionally' to link ideas. However, the logical progression is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Paragraphing is present, but the abrupt ending makes the overall structure feel unfinished. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the distinction between the two types of tourists becomes muddled. To improve, focus on creating a clear, logical flow between sentences and ensure that each paragraph is fully developed before moving to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. Phrases like 'significant rise' and 'rapidly increases' are appropriate, but there is some repetition of basic structures. There are also minor errors in word choice and form, such as 'there occurs some down fall' instead of 'there was a decline'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility or range required for a higher score. Expanding your range of synonyms for trends and data description would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of the writing. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('travelers who visits', 'tourists... remains same') and tense consistency. The sentence structures are relatively simple, and the attempt at more complex sentences is marred by errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly regarding the use of commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors is noticeable and prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would lead to immediate improvement.
