Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which severely impacts the ability to fully address the task. While the candidate attempts to identify an overall trend and some specific data points, the response is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence. Because the summary is unfinished, it fails to report all main features or make necessary comparisons across the entire period. To improve, the candidate must ensure they complete the analysis of all data categories and meet the minimum word count to allow for a full development of the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response shows a basic attempt at organization with an introduction and an overview. However, the lack of completion makes it difficult to assess the logical progression of the text. Cohesive devices are used in a very limited and sometimes mechanical way, such as 'Initially' and 'In 2010'. The abrupt ending prevents the establishment of a coherent flow. To improve, the candidate should focus on using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, finished structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'larger figure' and 'stayed on island' are used, but there is a lack of precision in describing trends (e.g., 'surged' is used, but the context is incomplete). There are also minor errors in article usage and word choice, such as 'visiting Caribbean island' instead of 'visiting the Caribbean island'. To reach a higher band, the candidate should incorporate more specific vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include missing articles ('visiting Caribbean island'), incorrect verb forms ('visitors stayed on island has larger figure'), and punctuation issues (the use of hyphens instead of standard sentence structure). These errors occasionally make the meaning slightly unclear. To improve, the candidate should focus on subject-verb agreement, consistent use of articles, and ensuring that sentences are complete and correctly punctuated.
