Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, including the overall trend and the intersection of the two categories. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you state that visitors staying on cruise ships surged to 1.5 million by 2013, whereas the graph shows a different trajectory. Additionally, you mention 2018, which is outside the provided timeframe of 2010–2017. While you identify the main trends, the misinterpretation of the figures and the inclusion of data beyond the scope of the prompt prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you carefully cross-reference your descriptions with the axes and the specific years provided in the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Meanwhile', 'After 2013', and 'Overall' helps guide the reader through the information. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions, such as 'then- it taken over'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when discussing the two groups of visitors. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to the intended subjects would enhance the logical progression of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to describe trends such as 'upward trend', 'surged', and 'converged'. However, there is a lack of precision and some repetitive phrasing. For example, 'larger figure' and 'larger group' are used somewhat vaguely. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'visitors stayed on island' instead of 'visitors staying on the island'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology for data description and ensure consistent use of articles and prepositions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'visiting Caribbean island'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'it taken over'), and inconsistent tense usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from being considered error-free. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as these are foundational elements that currently detract from the overall quality of your writing.
