Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have attempted to summarize the main features, the analysis is underdeveloped and lacks sufficient detail. For instance, you mention that the number of visitors 'doubled in 2013' and that there was a 'clear increased' (increase) during the period, but the data points are not consistently accurate or clearly presented. The comparison between cruise and island stayers is vague and lacks specific figures to support the claims. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview with specific data points for the beginning, middle, and end of the period to fully satisfy the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of cohesive devices. Transitions like 'Looking first at the detail' and 'Turning to remaining figure' are somewhat mechanical and do not always flow naturally into the next point. Additionally, some sentences are fragmented or grammatically incomplete, such as 'While few tourists visit island was in 2010', which makes the relationship between ideas difficult to follow. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'furthermore') to connect your sentences and ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'number of visitors' and 'staying on the island' throughout the text. There are also errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'islanding 2010' instead of 'in 2010' and 'clear increased' instead of 'clear increase'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a more varied range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant rise'. Expanding your lexical range will help you describe the data with more precision and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with verb tenses ('The graph illustrated' should be 'illustrates'), article usage ('visiting Caribbean Island' should be 'visiting the Caribbean island'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple, and there is a lack of complex structures. For example, 'The number of visitors who stayed on the islanding 2010 was same as 2011' contains multiple errors in grammar and word choice. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and practicing the construction of complex sentences using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions.
