Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the trends for cruise ship visitors, island stayers, and the total figures. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While the data points are generally accurate, the description of the trends is occasionally confusing, such as the statement that total visitors reached 3.5 million, which requires clearer contextualization. To improve, ensure that the overview highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing data points, and provide a more cohesive summary of the comparative data between the two categories of tourists.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by awkward transitions and repetitive sentence structures. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'anaylasing' and 'this figure'. Paragraphing is present, but the internal flow within paragraphs is disjointed. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect ideas more fluidly, and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus that contributes to the overall summary of the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'caribean', 'anyalsing', 'flcutuation', and 'vistors'. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying heavily on basic descriptors like 'reached at peak point' and 'fell down'. To improve, you should focus on learning more precise collocations for describing data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked at', or 'experienced a sharp decline'. Additionally, proofreading for basic spelling errors is essential to improve the clarity and professionalism of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect article usage ('in initial year'), subject-verb agreement ('the bar graph represent'), and awkward phrasing ('who was staying on island'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors impede the flow of the text. Focusing on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and correct article usage will significantly improve your accuracy and overall band score.
