Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the main features of the graph, but the data interpretation is frequently inaccurate and confusing. While you identify the shift between cruise ship and island visitors, the specific figures provided (e.g., '0–0.5', '1.5', '2.5 to 3') do not clearly align with the visual data provided in the prompt. The description of trends is often vague, using phrases like 'those were some' or 'it became more', which fails to clearly communicate the data to the reader. To improve, focus on selecting key data points—such as the starting and ending values or significant turning points—and describing them with precision rather than attempting to narrate every minor fluctuation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by unclear referencing and disjointed sentences. Phrases like 'Those were some till 2015' and 'Moving further, after 2012 the number of tourists were became slightly grew' lack clear connections to the previous information. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes misused, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of the data. To improve, ensure that each sentence clearly links to the previous one and that you use transition words (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'subsequently') to guide the reader through the data points logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic verbs like 'staying', 'became', and 'rose'. There are several instances of awkward word choice and incorrect collocations, such as 'the number of visitors who staying' (should be 'who stayed') and 'the amount of total is 1'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends with precision. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate a wider variety of verbs and nouns related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'a significant increase'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('the number of visitors... were higher'), incorrect verb tenses ('the amount of arrivals was rose'), and awkward sentence structures ('the number of tourists were became slightly grew'). There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the errors in basic grammar are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive and active voice when describing data. Proofreading for basic tense consistency would also significantly enhance the quality of your writing.
