Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response identifies the main trends, such as the overall increase in visitors and the specific dip in cruise ship passengers in 2012. However, the report lacks precision. For instance, referring to 'cruise shops' instead of 'cruise ships' and describing the island visitors as having an 'irrelevant fashion' of change is vague and inaccurate. The data points provided, such as '3.5 million' and '1 million', are not clearly linked to the specific categories (visitors staying on the island vs. cruise ship passengers), making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison. To improve, ensure all data points are clearly labeled and the distinction between the two categories is maintained throughout the summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often mechanical, such as 'first of all' and 'Like that'. The transition between the two categories of tourists is abrupt, and the lack of clear referencing makes it difficult to track which group is being discussed. The sentences are often disjointed, and the paragraphing does not effectively separate the different trends, which hinders the overall progression of the report. Using a wider variety of linking words and clearer signposting would significantly improve the readability and structure of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors that impede clarity, such as 'cruise shops' (instead of ships), 'quantity of tourists' (instead of number), and '1 million public' (instead of 1 million people). The phrase 'irrelevant fashion' is misused in this context. While the student attempts to describe trends, the lack of precise terminology for data reporting (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained steady') limits the score. To reach a higher band, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to graphs and charts and ensure words are used in their correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('there amount every year increase'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles ('the' island, 'the' graph). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence variety and proofreading for basic errors like subject-verb agreement and article usage would be highly beneficial.
