Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response identifies the main trends, such as the increase in cruise ship visitors and the fluctuations in island-staying tourists. However, the report lacks precision. For example, stating 'there was a hike in year' is vague, and the data points provided are often inaccurate or poorly described (e.g., '0.5-1 million' for 2016 is imprecise). The overview is also weak, as it does not clearly synthesize the overall trend. While the task is addressed, the lack of clear data reporting and the absence of a distinct, well-structured overview limit the score. To improve, ensure that all data points are clearly linked to specific years and that the overview highlights the most significant trends rather than just describing the start and end points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, but the flow is disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas, making the text feel like a series of disconnected sentences. For instance, the transition between the island-staying data and the cruise ship data is abrupt. Referencing is also unclear; phrases like 'after that' are used repetitively, which creates a mechanical feel. To improve, use a wider range of linking words such as 'in contrast,' 'subsequently,' or 'meanwhile' to guide the reader through the comparison of the two categories. Proper paragraphing should also be used to separate the introduction/overview from the body paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Words like 'hike' and 'staying' are used frequently, which restricts the range. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'engagement of tourists' and 'the number goes to 2 million people.' The spelling of 'toursits' and 'prefered' also indicates a need for more careful proofreading. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated,' 'peaked,' 'remained stable,' or 'witnessed a significant rise.' Expanding your range of synonyms will help make your writing more professional and accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'the staying on the island were not very much' is grammatically incorrect and awkward. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement ('the number of visitors... were') and missing articles ('in year 2010'). Punctuation is largely absent, which makes the text difficult to follow. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement. Incorporating more complex structures, such as relative clauses or comparative phrases, would also help demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
