Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, including the trends for cruise ship visitors, island stayers, and the total. However, the analysis is hampered by inaccurate data reporting. For example, you state the cruise ship visitors reached 2 million in 2017, whereas the graph indicates a different figure. Additionally, the term 'bagpacker' is used to describe all island stayers, which is an unsupported assumption not present in the prompt. While the overview attempts to highlight trends, the lack of precision in data interpretation and the mislabeling of categories prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure that data points are read accurately from the axes and avoid adding external information not provided in the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed due to awkward phrasing and limited use of cohesive devices. Transitions like 'At first' and 'The last one' are used, but they feel mechanical and do not always link sentences logically. Referencing is also unclear at times, such as 'its has ended' or 'the its goes updward', which makes the flow of information difficult to follow. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'furthermore') and ensure that pronouns clearly refer back to the previously mentioned subjects.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'uprise a little' instead of 'increased slightly', 'immense emerging' instead of 'significant growth', and 'remain frozen' to describe a static trend. The spelling of 'Carribean' and 'beggining' also indicates a lack of control. While the meaning is generally understandable, the vocabulary is not sufficiently precise for an academic report. You should focus on learning topic-specific collocations for describing graphs, such as 'a steady increase', 'reached a peak', or 'remained stable'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('number of visitor... have'), incorrect verb tenses ('its upward to same amount'), and missing articles or prepositions. Many sentences are structurally incomplete or confusing, such as 'the total number of bagpackers is ended with 3.5 millions'. These errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically the use of past tense for describing historical data and ensuring that subjects and verbs agree in number.
