Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The line-graph gives information about the number of tourists approaching to a island named Caribbean between 2010 to 2017.
Overall, the visitors staying on cruise ships gradually increased in 8 years from 2010 to 2017, whereas the visitors staying on island started from around 0.8 million in 2010 and goes upto 1.5 million in 2014, 2015, 2016, and also stayed the same in 2017.
The total calculated number of visitors stayed on island and cruise ships are 1 million in 2010 and 3.5 million in 2017, so it proved that year 2017 has high ratio of visitors in Carribean island and year 2010 has the lowest number visi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Because the text is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence, the overview is underdeveloped, and the data reporting is insufficient. While you have identified some main features, such as the increase in cruise ship visitors and the plateau of island visitors, the lack of a complete analysis and the failure to cover the full scope of the data prevent a higher band. To improve, you must ensure you provide a comprehensive summary that includes all key trends and comparisons, and you must complete your writing to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response shows some attempt at logical organization with an introduction and an overview. However, the progression is interrupted by the abrupt ending of the text. Cohesive devices are used in a very basic manner, such as 'Overall' and 'whereas', but the lack of a full conclusion or a well-developed body paragraph makes the overall structure feel incomplete. To improve, focus on organizing your data into clear, distinct paragraphs and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but remains quite repetitive and limited. Phrases like 'approaching to a island' are grammatically incorrect and show a lack of precision. You use basic terms like 'increased' and 'stayed the same'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied and precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a steady growth'. Avoid word-choice errors like 'approaching to' and focus on using more natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are several grammatical errors that hinder the flow of the text. For example, 'approaching to a island' should be 'visiting an island', and 'visitors stayed on island' should be 'visitors staying on the island'. The sentence structure is relatively simple, and there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of errors is noticeable. To improve, practice using a mix of complex sentence structures and pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, particularly articles and verb forms.
