Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response effectively covers the requirements of the task. You have identified the main trends, such as the significant growth in total visitors and the contrasting patterns between cruise ship and island-based tourists. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the data. You have also made relevant comparisons, such as noting when cruise ship tourists overtook island guests. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are accurate; for instance, the claim that island-based visitors stabilized at 1.5 million is well-supported, but ensure that all figures mentioned align precisely with the visual data provided to avoid minor inaccuracies.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you have used a variety of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'Conversely', 'While', and 'Driven by this surge'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different categories of data. The flow of information is easy to follow, and the relationship between the different trends is clearly articulated. The use of referencing is generally accurate, which helps maintain the cohesion of the text throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have demonstrated a good range of vocabulary appropriate for an academic report, using terms like 'plateaued', 'dramatic and continuous rise', 'sharp surge', and 'stabilizing'. These choices show an awareness of style and collocation. There are a few minor errors, such as '1 millon' (spelling) and 'consistantly' (spelling), but these do not impede communication. To improve further, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms for common verbs and ensure consistent attention to spelling, as these small slips prevent the response from reaching the highest band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The response displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You have used subordinate clauses effectively, such as 'While the number of tourists choosing to stay on cruise ships saw a dramatic and continuous rise...'. Most sentences are error-free, and the grammar is generally controlled. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as the missing preposition in 'Cruise ship tourists overtook island guests [and] peaked at 2 million'. However, these errors are infrequent and do not cause any difficulty for the reader, demonstrating a solid command of grammatical structures.
