Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the graph, outlining the overall upward trend in tourism and distinguishing between visitors staying on the island versus those on cruise ships. However, the task achievement is hindered by a lack of clarity in data reporting and numerous inaccurate figures. Phrases like 'the tourist stay on island showed the little bite flustration' demonstrate confusion in reporting the data accurately. Furthermore, the response includes references to a 'map' instead of a graph, which indicates a misunderstanding of the visual prompt. While an overview is present and some comparisons are attempted, the inaccurate data representation and vague numeric descriptions prevent the response from reaching a higher band. It satisfies the basic requirements of summarising the main features, but the execution remains partial and confusing in places, aligning well with a Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The response is divided into short paragraphs, but the overall structure and logical progression are weak. The introduction is followed by an abrupt shift in the second paragraph, which contains a fragmented sentence: 'Overall, the number of visitors rose sharply. but in the map a different trend have shown...' Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as the repetitive use of 'then', 'suddenly', and 'and'. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with several very short, disconnected sentences that fail to build a cohesive argument or overview. Referencing is also confusing, as the pronoun 'it' in 'increased from 0.7 to 1.5 millions and then again remained stable' lacks a clear antecedent. Overall, the organisation displays a lack of smooth transitions and logical progression, justifying a Band 4.5 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic and frequently inappropriate or incorrect. The writer relies heavily on simple terms like 'rose sharply', 'increased', and 'stable', but attempts at less common vocabulary result in severe lexical errors, such as 'little bite flustration' (likely intended to mean fluctuation) and 'visiters'. There are also instances of incorrect word forms and collocations, such as 'sharply increase' instead of 'sharp increase'. The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive, and errors in word choice occasionally impede communication, particularly when describing specific data points. Consequently, the lexical resource demonstrates the characteristics of a Band 4.0 performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical structures attempted are a mix of simple and basic complex sentences, but accuracy is very low. The text contains frequent, disruptive errors in tense agreement, article use, and prepositional phrases. Examples include 'a different trend have shown in the map', 'the tourist stay on island showed', and 'there is sharply increase'. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences (e.g., 'the tourist stay...', 'From 2010 to 2017, The number...') and broken sentence boundaries. The high frequency of grammatical errors and lack of control over complex structures mean that meaning is frequently distorted or difficult to parse, placing the grammar firmly at a Band 4.0.
