Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student successfully covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends and making relevant comparisons between the three categories of visitors on the Caribbean island. An overview is provided in the first paragraph, noting the dominance of total visitors and the rising trend of cruise ship passengers alongside the fluctuating island stay numbers. Key features, such as the peak of 3.5 million total visitors in 2017 and the growth of cruise ship visitors, are properly highlighted and supported with data from the graph. The response satisfies the requirements for Task Achievement well, presenting a clear summary without omitting critical information.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into three paragraphs, beginning with an introduction and overview, followed by body details. Cohesive devices are utilized, such as 'Meanwhile,' 'Furthermore,' and 'afterthat,' though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or are awkwardly linked (e.g., 'afterthat the figured showed'). Paragraphing is generally appropriate, separating different categories of visitors for clarity. However, logical progression within the second sentence of the second paragraph becomes somewhat cluttered with multiple coordinate clauses joined by 'and' and 'then,' which slightly impedes the smooth flow of information. Overall organization remains clear.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying trends and data using terms like 'fluctuated,' 'upward trend,' 'remain stable,' and 'significant increased.' However, there are notable word-formation and grammatical errors involving vocabulary, such as 'significant increased' instead of 'significant increase' and '0.2 millions' instead of '0.2 million.' Less common lexical items are attempted ('dominant', 'unchanged'), but lack complete precision. The range is sufficient to communicate the main features clearly, though errors in collocation and pluralization prevent a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and coordinate structures. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'total number of visitors remained dominant,' 'total numbers of visitors stayed from 1 millions,' and repetitive use of tense markers. Punctuation and number agreement require attention, particularly with units ('0.2 millions' instead of '0.2 million'). Despite these recurring errors, the meaning is generally clear and communication is not severely hindered by the grammatical slips.
